Scripture Journaling Using SOAP

Some ladies have come to me with questions about journaling, such as how to get started and how to keep it going. I started doing some research and came across scripture journaling using the SOAP method. I knew this would be a great place to start.

First of all, what is scripture journaling? is writing a bible verse every day in addition to whatever you hear God saying to you through that verse.

I’m glad you asked! It is writing a bible verse every day in addition to whatever you hear God saying to you through that verse.

SOAP stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer.

Scripture

Write the bible verse.

Observation

What is the verse saying to you? What do you see as you are reading the verse? Who is the verse speaking to? What is it talking about? Do any words stick out to you?

Application

How can you apply what you read to your own personal life? What changes do you need to make? What do you need to do to in an effort to live out this verse?

Prayer

Ask God to help you live out this verse in your everyday life.

To get started all you need is a journal and a pen. You can write each section of the SOAP method listed above in your personal journal.

To make this more fun I suggest you get a pretty journal from my store (shameless plug, I know!) or you can get a journal like this one from Amazon. I love the BIC BU3 Colored Pens or Paper Mate Inkjoy Gel Pens for writing things down.

Better yet, I created a personal bible study journal so that you can keep all of your scriptures together for easy reference.

I will begin using this method to write a daily devotional on my blog, and I encourage you to join me on this journey. I am sure it will be a life changing experience as we grow in God’s Word every day together!
